FAQ’S

  • Why pilates?

Pilates is a beautiful form of structured movement inspired by yoga, callisthenics and ballet. Originally called “contrology” by pioneer, Joseph Pilates, it focuses on the pillars of mobility and strength, balancing the activation of all major muscle groups within the body. Pilates can come in the form of either aerobic or non-aerobic exercise depending on the focus of the class and the needs of the student, with all approaches requiring considerable flow and concentration. It’s a malleable kind of movement suitable for everyone, from elite athletes to those with limited experience or mobility!

  • Is pilates suitable for pre or postnatal women?

Yes! Pilates is one of the most popular forms of exercise for pre and postnatal women. Its considered movements align beautifully with a rapidly changing body and help build beneficial strength and balance. However, regular classes are not advised throughout the pregnancy journey, which is why Pilates Prescription is designing specific pre and postnatal classes to build confidence during this special time (coming soon!). Our prenatal classes safely prepare the body for pregnancy, labour and early motherhood, while our postnatal classes help rebuild the pelvic floor, strengthen abdominals and fast-track a whole-body recovery. Ensure you consult your physician before engaging with a pre or postnatal Pilates Prescription class to confirm you’re set for practice.

  • Can I practise pilates if I’m injured?

In the recovery stage after an injury, pilates can be an essential means of restoring normal muscle function. It’s able to activate the deep stabilisers within the body with its distinct focus on precision and control, strengthening fatigued muscles and helping prevent further injury. However, depending on your levels of pain and stage of recovery, regular classes may not be suitable. Consult your physician before engaging with a Pilates Prescription class for guidance.

  • I’m new to virtual or online pilates. How does it all work?

Pilates Prescription empowers pilates students and teachers to build a nourishing sanctuary of movement within their own home. Instead of in-person classes, we mainly take an on-demand approach that gives you access to an array of virtual pilates classes to be tapped into anywhere - anytime. Otherwise, we outstretch one-on-one virtual classes to those looking for more guidance, are new to the practice or have distinct injury requirements.

We realise everyone’s practice and vibe is a little different. That’s why Pilates Prescription has curated a selection of memberships that allows everyone to move in a way that reflects their vision and goals.
